Team Guam officials finalize preparation for NMI2022 PMG through the OSEP Team Manager course

May 9, 2022

The course is facilitated by RME Joey Miranda III, and Master Educators Tara Tydingco and Melanie Torre.  A formal introduction of each team official and manager paved the way for a meaningful session where each member would understand the requirements of a team manager and the facilitation of their respective teams in accordance with the Guam National Olympic Committee’s guidance provided in the Team handbook along with the Sport Technical Manual of the Pacific Mini Games.

The first of the three-day course was attended by all nine sports officials partaking in the Games as well as interested federation members seeking certification.  The course and workshop covered the foundations of effective team management, functional areas for a team manager, and the development phase of team preparation.  Each team official discussed the roles they will be committing to as well as shared their experiences as a team official.

Activities included a debate on parents and their ability to coach or manage a team effectively alongside their children actively involved in the team.  The exercise was an eye-opener for parents who have children actively participating in sports as they tried to grapple with the reasoning behind the theme’s negative aspects.  Another exercise used during the course was a group presentation on the requirements of a team official.

An informative session ensued during the course and workshop as the responsibilities each official will play were laid out.  Each participating official was given asynchronous work to develop their Team Manual in preparation for the Games and a presentation will be hosted during the Team Guam delegation meeting scheduled later in the month.

Day two of the course will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the GNOC Conference room.
