Participants of the first Zoom on-line GNOC OSEP MISO Course

Monday, June 29, 2020 - Zoom virtual platform

The course was facilitated by OSEP Regional Master Educator Joey Miranda III and assisted by Master Educators Tara Tydingco and Melanie Torre. Miranda opened the course, thanking the participants for their attendance, in the first of five weekly collaborations. He acknowledged the challenges all federations currently face with the COVID-19 pandemic and asked them to be steadfast as we work together in building the Team Guam sports culture. Thereafter, he provided the course outline, competencies, and eventual outcomes.

The first virtual Oceania Sport Education Program Management of International Sports Organizations course was hosted on Monday, June 29, 2020 on the Zoom on-line platform by the Guam National Olympic Committee OSEP Master Educators.  Nine National Federations and the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission were represented during the initial MISO course.

Module 2 presentation by RME Joey Miranda III

Like many virtually hosted events, glitches were expected, and adjustments were made.  The ninety-minute course and workshop touched on Olympic Solidarity’s Administrative Course as well as MISO Modules one and two.  Pre-recorded, closed-captioned video modules were shared by ME Dr. Michael Rabago and Miranda.  Dr. Rabago presented on the Introduction of Sports in the Pacific while Miranda covered effective meetings.

After each module presentation, the Master Educators and participants broke out into zoom rooms to discuss each topic and reflect on their strategies for the upcoming quadrennial, 2021 to 2024.  Groups discussed their National Federation’s status, preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021, improvements to their structure, procedures, and preparation in hosting their Annual General Membership meeting, as well as updating their NF Charter, or Constitution and By-Laws.

Breakout session with Group 3

After the breakout session, Oceania National Olympic Committee Secretary-General and GNOC President Ricardo Blas, joined the group providing an insight to the role that OSEP plays in the region and the importance of the MISO course as he touched up on the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Masters in Sport Organizations Management (MEMOS) program.

The Master Educators presented a summary of their group’s perspective emerging from the breakout session.  Thereafter, Tydingco provided a brief on the Governance module while Torre discussed the expectation for next week’s topic on Financial management.

Miranda closed the session wrapping up the day’s activities and provided course assignments including providing templates for their upcoming AGM, list of certified coaches and officials and current organizational structure. The next virtual session will be held on Monday, July 6, 2020 via the zoom on-line application at 5:30 p.m. Guam time.
