The Community Strength and Conditioning Coach Course continued with day 2 activities on Nutrition and Demands of Sport. Miranda welcomed the coaches and opened with a review of the previous day’s learnings and outcomes.
The quote of the day was provided by Paul Claros quoting Henry Ford, “Don’t find fault, find a remedy.”
Lenora Matanane provided an overview on Nutrition periodization where each coach was able to identify pillars of nutrition to foster nourishment-based relationship with food, calculate macronutrient needs of an athlete, and incorporate a balance of food groups to meet the macronutrient and micronutrient needs of an athlete.
An ice breaker was incorporated as participants were grouped into teams of three. They wrote down examples of foods from each food group that they would typically recommend to athletes. A nutrition worksheet activity was presented and reviewed by Lenora as well as discussions on diet programs, third-party certification and plating for preseason and offseason.
Sport Fitness and the demands of the sport was covered by Paul Claros. Participants were grouped to discuss and present the components of fitness, warmup session, cool down session, movements of a sport and the principles of training in relation to their sport.
Ryan Claros closed out the session with a preview of day 3activities and review of the day 2 session on nutrition and sport fitness requirements.
