Tuesday, December 13, 2017 - Port Vila, VanuatuJacinta Sumagaysay cleared all her lifts in the snatch under 58kg division to lay claim to Guam's first medal during the 10th Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Sumagaysay won the silver after clearing 71 kg. in the snatch. She lifted 66kg, 68kg in her prior two attempts. The gold was claimed by Solomon's Jenny Wili at 82kg while bronze went to Sofia Kinikinilau of Fiji who cleared 60kg. "I'm quite happy, but at the same time, bittersweet because of my clean and jerk, but this should help me learn and want more for my future events." says Sumagaysay.Sumagaysay's statement was in reference to her disappointment when she was unsuccessful in clearing the 88kg on the clean and jerk. With the missed lifts, her opportunity at a possible two additional medals were preempted.Team Guam's next competitor is Judo's Deja Whitt who will be contesting for a medal in the under 52kg category.
