Team Guam shares Olympic experience with Japan Consul-General

Tuesday, December 7, 2021 – Tumon, Guam

Members of Team Guam’s delegation to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games were invited by the Japan Consul-General and Mrs. Toshiaki Kobayashi for an evening to reminisce about the games experience.

The Consul-General welcomed the delegates to this residence, thanking each member for their attendance, as well as their participation during the Tokyo Games.  He noted the resiliency of all athletes as they embarked on a journey that was never experienced through the postponement of the Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  He also talked about continued dialogue between our organizations leading up to the Games and looked forward to future opportunities in sport between Guam, Oceania, and Japan.

GNOC President and ONOC Secretary-General Ricardo Blas expressed his gratitude to the Consul-General for inviting the team.  He talked about the pre-Games training camp that was organized by ONOC and how it helped acclimate our athletes in preparation for the Games, the struggles our athletes and entourage had gone through and the daily testing routines.

A souvenir was presented by Blas to the Consul-General as a token of appreciation for his warm hospitality and generous offer.

The team was treated to a variety of scrumptious Japanese delicacies prepared by Chef Nishimura ending with a bountiful array of desserts.
